Mediation is a flexible, practical, and respectful approach to a variety of problems such as divorce, prenuptial agreements, partner separations, and child custody.  These are some of the issues which I have helped individuals and families with for more than 20 years in my therapy practice.  I am now also working with an experienced New York lawyer, Jane Freidson (www.familylawandmediation.com), to help couples and families negotiate legal agreements regarding a variety of family law issues.

Jane and I facilitate sessions that allow separating couples to address the financial, child care, and other legal issues in a safe and productive forum.  We are also available to mediate a variety of other matters, such as a pre-marital or post-marital financial agreement, a non-traditional separation, or disputes involving parents and children.

As mediators, we maintain neutrality, not taking sides with either person but helping both get to a resolution of the emotional and legal issues.  At the end of your sessions, Jane Freidson will write an agreement that specifies all the matters that were resolved in mediation and which will allow both of you the security of a legally enforceable agreement protecting you in the future from expensive and divisive litigation.

Jane and I were both trained in mediation at the internationally renowned Ackerman Institute for the Family.  Jane has 30 years of litigation experience and has specialized in family law issues for almost 15 years.  I have 20 years of experience as a mental health professional.  Our skills and personalities complement one another in mediation.

We bill for mediation sessions on an hourly basis.  Sessions are one to two hours in length, and couples who are ready to resolve issues will generally be able do so in about four to twelve hours of mediation.  Call for our current hourly rates.  The cost of preparing the written agreement depends upon the complexity of the issues and the nature of the case, but Jane has flat fees for pre-nuptial agreements and separation agreements.
